Bandolero & Malasangre / Bandit and Bad Blood

Presented in Spanish with English supertitles

Produced by GALA Hispanic Theatre @teatrogala (Washington DC, USA)

Running time: 90 minutes

Six characters and "twelve voices" meet in a municipal kennel on December 31, and while they take stock of what has happened in the past year, they look for someone to accompany them through the rest of the years to come.

It is a hilarious and corrosive work about any country that laughs at its tears, fears, and frustrations as long as it is not held accountable for what it has done and left undone. Thus, an extravagant dog catcher, a hallucinated soap opera actor, an injured provincial, a troubled debt collector, an alcoholic sailor, a lousy emigrant, and a cheerful sister-in-law will share their stories, some tragic and others hilarious, surrounded by a pack of dogs that They are a lot of bandits but always with a light of hope. Because, as the piece says, "Don't you understand me? I'm talking about love. It is worse, even if you think it is an earthquake, hurricane, or epidemic, because love does not end or change your life, but rather, it breaks it into pieces. Forever".

Premiered for the first time in Poitiers, France, Bandit & Bad Blood is one of the most performed pieces by Venezuelan author Gustavo Ott. "Travelling and stray" work, as the author has defined it, has been presented in Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Denmark, Spain, France, Korea, Japan, and Brazil, and It has been translated into French, Portuguese and Catalan. This unique performance at FLAE will be its premiere in the United States.

Playwright: Gustavo Ott

Director: Gustavo Ott

PG13

*Student tickets are $15 at the door with valid student ID.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Odd Man Out

Presented in English

Produced by PitchBlack Immersive Experiences @oddmanoutnyc (New York, USA)

Running time: 90 minutes

Odd Man Out is an immersive experience in complete darkness in which the audience hears, smells, tastes, and feels the story of Alberto, a blind jazz musician traveling home from New York to Buenos Aires after decades of self-exile.

The story is set on the flight back to Buenos Aires, with the audience entering the space as passengers on that flight. As Alberto tells his life stories to his seatmates, we start re-imagining his journey as he perceives it: in complete darkness. We experience his life as a young man in the 1960s in Argentina and then his life journey in New York City. His girlfriend follows him there, but she is ultimately drawn back to Argentina and its troubled politics. We take in these moments in a way most of us have never experienced a story: our ears, noses, skin, and palates are engaged in an immersive journey of love, prejudice, and fears that were left behind.

Because the audience members—our “passengers”—are in complete darkness throughout the entire duration of the flight, the action is experienced through auditory stimulation, tactile objects, tasty treats, and enriched smells. Passengers will even feel the weather occurring around them.

Odd Man Out began at Teatro Ciego in Argentina, with a 15-year history of creating live experiences in complete darkness. The theater company employs artists and technicians with visual disabilities in all its work. Forty percent of the staff and creative teams are made up of individuals living with sight loss.

Directors: Carlos Armesto and Facundo Bogarin

Writer and Director: Martin Bondone

Immersive Audio Designer: Nicolas Alvarez

PG13

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

WarmUp for the Week

WarmUp for the Week with Rokaya Mikhailenko

This FREE event is part of FRINGE-Coming, a month of programing presented by Fringe& to get the community ready and excited to Get Fringed!

Dance and moving creatively and freely is for every single body, without exception. This warm up is built with that objective. We will begin with breath work and let purposeful breathing drive gentle and natural movement that will then give structure and perimeters through a few select modern and improvisational fundamentals.

Please wear loose clothing and socks designated for class (they could get dirty so you may want another pair for after). Some individuals will benefit from having a sweater to begin, or something easily removed, to aid in building heat which can help ease movement.

Rokaya Mikhailenko has been part of the central florida dance community throughout the past 20 years. She has performed and choreographed for Voci Dance, Coby Project, and her own company AHHA Dance in both theatrical and site specific setting, live and in dance film offerings. Her training ranges from classical ballet and modern pedagogy to creative movement and contact/improvisation. Each study has its own value and has informed her personal style. She first performed in Fringe Festival with Voci Dance in 2007 under the direction of Genevieve Bernard and has enjoyed participating as a performer and patron of Fringe many times since. Kids Fringe and the opportunity to expose children to modern dance, creative dance, dance theory and history in a workshop format has been a special highlight. Currently her focus is on "somatic modern" and movement education. Everyone can learn to express themselves through dance if given a safe space to grow that expression.

This event lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Fringe& is a year-round program that provides experiential learning opportunities for artists, patrons, & the community, including workshops, mentorship, panels, summits, potlucks, play, networking and more!
